The second most visited city is Porto, leading its history from the 4th century. Familiarity with the capital of port is better to start — no, not from the bar — from the historical center, protected by UNESCO. Here are located the cathedral, resembling a fortress, and the impressive-sized church of San Francisco. Tired of monumentality, you should go to the Ribeira district: its colorful houses, as if stuck on each other, look charming. And after the tour, it’s time to relax on any of the pebble or sandy beaches of the city.
50 km north of Porto is Braga — the center of Portuguese Catholicism with the residence of the archbishop. It is not surprising that the main tourist sites here are cathedrals and churches built in Gothic, Romanesque and other styles. The main attraction of Coimbra is the oldest university in the country: a complex of elegant baroque buildings, including even the former royal palace. And here is a great shopping experience: from the many bookstores, boutiques and antique salons it is impossible to leave without shopping.
Evora is an ideal place for gastronomic delights: the local cheeses, desserts and wines are beyond praise. You can enjoy your appetite by inspecting architectural beauties: the Neolithic buildings were perfectly preserved in the vicinity, and the ruins of a Roman temple and medieval cathedrals are in the city itself.
